BALDRY CROSSING PICNIC AREA

Public BBQ

Tucked along Main Ridge Road, this unassuming roadside stop reveals itself as a gateway to something rather special. The picnic area itself is refreshingly honest about what it offers - a simple table, basic parking that can descend into automotive chaos on busy days, and notably, no toilets. What it lacks in amenities, however, it compensates for with access to walking tracks that meander through fern-covered former farmland and banksia forest. The creek crossing features charming stepping stones perfect for an impromptu picnic spot, while the network of trails accommodates everything from leisurely hour-long strolls to ambitious four-hour expeditions toward Cape Schanck. Horse riders will appreciate the dedicated holding yards, though one suspects the horses enjoy better parking arrangements than their human companions. It's the sort of place where a bit of effort yields genuine rewards - native wildlife, unexpected conversations with fellow walkers, and that particular satisfaction that comes from discovering something worthwhile hiding in plain sight.
